Enjoy our photo essay of the best things to do in Kakadu. If you’re a nature lover, this is the adventure you’ve been waiting for!
With vast wetlands, sandstone escarpments, waterfalls and an abundance of wildlife, Kakadu is one of the most extraordinary places to visit in the world.
Kakadu is listed with the UNESCO World Heritage for both its cultural and natural values and home to more than 10,000 crocodiles, 280 different types of birds and around 2,000 different types of plants.
This is a photo essay I put together of some of the best things to see and do in Kakadu. Enjoy!
Things to see and do in Kakadu National Park
This National Park is a big place! Over 20,000 square kilometres and nearly half the size of Switzerland. Be sure to see as much as you can when you visit this amazing National Park. It is an experience of a lifetime.
Aboriginal people have occupied Kakadu National Park continuously for at least 65,000 years making them the oldest living culture on earth.
Warradjan Cultural Centre
Time your visit perfectly with the 6 seasons of Kakadu. Every season brings you a different experience!
Cahills Crossing is on the East Alligator River which borders Arnhem Land. Its a great spot to watch crocodiles during the tidal run-though. On our last visit, over 40 large crocodiles were jostling for position for the feeding frenzy that the change of the tide brought.
Sunset at Ubirr Rock
Ubirr Rock is one of the most magical vantage points to experience a Top End sunset. It is a ‘must do’ on your visit.
Aboriginal Art gallery at Ubirr Rock
Explore the well-preserved Aboriginal Art Gallery at Ubirr. Check the scheduled times for the ranger talks during the dry season.
Take a Sunrise Cruise on Yellow Waters
One experience you simply can’t miss! The Yellow Water Cruise is one of the most interesting experiences in the national park. Laden with crocodiles, buffalo, birds, and other wildlife – every cruise is different!
Sunset on Yellow Waters
Saltwater Crocodiles at Yellow Waters
Rufous Night Heron
Black Necked Stork (Jabiru)
Some of the best bushwalks in the park, Nourlangie has a number of walking tracks leading you to a number of Aboriginal Art Galleries and spectacular views to the horizon.
Aboriginal Rock Paintings
One of the prettiest billabongs in Kakadu. Sandy Billabong is full of wildlife and beautiful waterlillies. A great place to go camping but remember to stay away from the water’s edge!
One of the best things to do in Kakadu is to take a Scenic Flight
